World wide web and the internet

The World Wide Web (www) is an interconnection of public web pages that individuals can access through the internet. It’s a network of online content, such as videos and pictures, that you can access with a web browser. Many individuals often use the terms World Wide Web and Internet interchangeably, but they differ in meaning. The internet is a connection that allows you to send e-mails and access the World Wide Web. The World Wide Web generally consists of these components:

  • Hypertext markup language (HTML): This is the popular format for publishing web content.

  • Uniform resource locator (URL): The URL is the address of a web page.

  • Hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP): It’s a set of instructions that govern how to transfer files over the web.
